This Saturday, April 20, the Eureka High School golf teams will host the second annual Tornado Classic, a four-person scramble golf tournament at the Eureka Country Club.

Tornado Baseball/Softball Fell To Caney; Boys Lost To Southern Lyon County
The Eureka Tornadoes baseball and softball teams hosted the Bullpups of Caney last Tuesday, April 2 for two games. The Tornadoes tallied 8 hits combined, but didn’t pull off a victory against the Bullpups.

Junior High Track Hosted Eureka Classic To Start Season

Tornado Boys Golf Participated At Uniontown Tournament
Tornado Junior Varsity golf traveled to Fort Scott on Thursday, April 4 for the Uniontown tournament. Participating for Eureka were: Easton Mead, 54; Jonah Werner, 57 and John Noll with 63 strokes.

Eureka varsity golf kicked off their season on Monday, March 25 with a cool and breezy 18-hole tournament in Caney.

West Elk Field Named Taliaferro Field
On Monday, March 25, the West Elk Patriot baseball team hosted their season opener against Oxford. To kick off the game, former West Elk Baseball Coach Dana Taliaferro threw the ceremonial first pitch. Following the pitch, a special announcement was made by West Elk Assistant Principal Chris Haag, “Coach, we are not quite finished and would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for all that you have done for West Elk. Coach Taliaferro has been a tremendous teacher, athletic director and coach for many years. His commitment to his peers, students and players was demonstrated for over four decades at West Elk.

Named As Sports In Kansas 2A Coach Of The Year Finalist
Eureka Lady Tornado head basketball coach Shelly Hoyt was listed as one of the finalists by Sports in Kansas for the 2A Girls Coach of the Year.

Lady Tornado Basketball Competed At 2A State
For just the third time in school history, the Eureka Lady Tornadoes competed in the State Championship Tournament on Wednesday, March 6 at the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City. In the opening round, Eureka faced the second seeded Pittsburg Colgan Panthers after drawing the seventh seed in the tournament. Although the Tornadoes had an excellent first half, they couldn’t recover from runs made by the Panthers in the third quarter. Eureka lost 50-66, capping off their 19-5 season.
