Howard City Council
The April 1 Howard City Council meeting was called to order by Mayor Richard Clark at 7:30 p.m., with council members Martin Hunter, Shilo Crupper, Derek Cookson, Jerrad Pope and Gary Harrod present. Also present was Howard Housing Authority (HHA) board members John Black, Debbie Roebuck, Patty Wiseman, Rodney Indermill, Susan Galvan Board Chair, Sherry Swendson State Certified Executive Director Specialist and Joanna Hunter City Clerk.

Governor Rejected HB 2532
Last Friday, Governor Laura Kelly vetoed House Bill 2532, the horse race wagering bill. The bill passed 34-3 in the Senate and 8832 in the House. It was shared with The Eureka Herald that the bill was rejected due to language in the bill needing to be updated to include funding being granted to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission for security and regulations. Bill writers have 10-days to update the language and return the bill to Governor Kelly for signature.

U.S. 400 Resurfacing Project Began In Greenwood County
On Monday, April 22, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) planned to begin a resurfacing project on U.S. 400 in Greenwood County. The 16.3-mile project starts at the Butler- Greenwood County line and continues east to the east K-99 junction. Project activity includes surface recycling with an overlay. Flaggers and a pilot car will direct one-lane traffic through the work zone. Expect delays of 15 minutes or less during weekday daylight hours until July.

KDOT To Start Mudjacking Project In Late April
The week of April 22 the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) expects to start a mudjacking project that includes various locations in Allen, Bourbon, Coffey, Franklin, Greenwood, Labette, Miami, Neosho, Osage and Wilson counties.

Here it is, the last full week of April. Only six days until May 1. Did you do something good for our planet Monday? It was Earth Day. I saw a very fitting t-shirt for the day: “Leave behind only your footprints, not trash!” Such a simple little request, yet so many fail to respond accordingly. I also saw on TV that our national parks have signs everywhere, especially on hiking trails, pertaining to trash. If you take something in with you, make sure it leaves with you.
