The Howard City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the Dec. 16, 2024 meeting, which were approved during their most recent meeting on Jan. 6.
Mayor Richard Clark called the regular meeting of the Howard City Council to order on Jan. 6.
The Dec. 16, 2024 minutes, city bills totaling $124,283.89 through December 2024, Resolution 2025-01 for the annual GAAP resolution regarding bookkeeping practices and Library fund balance disbursements totaling $2,430.01 were approved.
After an executive session to discuss personnel matters pursuant to nonelected personnel, employee raises of one dollar per hour were given to D. Marshall, C. Hunter, S. Evans and Clerk Joanna Hunter, and a fifty cent per hour raise was given to M. Holt.
It was approved to adopt Ordinance 693 to set rental terms at the Cox Building. The rental fees approved are $50 per day for the entire lower level space and $30 per day for the east room or the west room. Ordinance 694 amending city codes regarding prohibited discharge in the wastewater system to include whole blood was also approved.
The board approved the 2026 Budget Preparation Assistance engagement and the 2024 Audit Engagement Letter with Rodney Burns, CPA.
The board approved for Kevin Mitchell and Clay Hunter to attend the 2025 KRWA Conference and to purchase culverts to be used in 2025.
The board approved 2025 City Holidays and council meeting dates listed except to reschedule the regular meeting on Feb. 17 to Wednesday Feb. 19 in observance of President’s Day.
Other discussion involved review of the 2024 final Treasurer’s Report; Review of the 2023 Audit completion; Mileage reimbursement to remain the same for 2025; No Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) at this time; Many positive comments received by Council on the Cox Awning; Pool replumbing to be accomplished before May; Unused red trailer to be sold; and Maintenance on utility vehicles.
The board also held a meeting on Jan. 20. The next regular meeting of the Howard City Council will be held on Feb. 3.
