Eureka USD 389 Board Of Education Held Short/Routine Meeting

The Eureka USD 389 Board of Education held a short and routine meeting on Monday, Jan. 14.

To kick off the new year, the board elected Brian Mongeau to return to the president position and Brandon Hall to serve as the vice president.

Marshall Elementary School’s (MES) Carter Ring provided a student presentation, representing the school’s paparazzi club. Ring, a fourth grader, provided the board with a questionnaire for all board members and snapped photographs of each member for a future newsletter.

Eureka Junior/Senior High School (EHSJS) Agriculture teacher Trint Peine introduced Hunter Chambers who is serving as a student teacher this semester. Chambers is currently teaching the eighth-grade classes and will transition to teaching the other classes throughout the semester.

Following a short presentation by MES teachers Madison Rayburn and Paige Samuels, the board approved the purchase of a social studies curriculum through TCI at $49,970.15.

The board approved a resolution to establish the board’s regular meeting dates during the July meeting, to coincide with the 2025-26 school year.

Board members Travis Harrison and Hall will serve on the negotiations committee, with Austin Evenson and Luke Adkins serving as alternates if needed.

During administrative reports, a recent data breach was noted within Power-School. Although a release from PowerSchool hadn’t yet been shared, it was noted that the details were obtained from a backup server hosted by PowerSchool. Individual data obtained in the breach included names, addresses, parent’s names, phone numbers, parent email addresses and primary care provider’s names.

The board approved resignations from Brooklyn Ptacek, paraprofessional and Kimberly Harber, kitchen staff.

Eureka Board of Education will hold its next monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m., at the district office.
