The end of July is upon us, which means... It’s Greenwood County Fair Week! This week is bound to be crammed full of events as area participants complete their exhibits for the annual event. Pre-fair events continued last Saturday with the annual horse show. Although there were fewer horses this year, the 4-Hers did great and the event was a success. Congratulations to Hannah Perrier and Jorja Beeman for receiving Grand Champion Gelding and Mare; and Hannah and Henry Perrier for earning high point horsemen in the senior and intermediate divisions. 07/23/2024 11:00 PM

As the temperatures climb into the 90s and above, most trees require more water, but more water means more costs. One helpful tip is to modify soaker hoses to save a few dollars. Scary times continue to plague our great nation. Despite the amazing freedoms we have, the hate and discontent are more prevalent than faith, hope and love. What has led us to this point? How do we get back to loving our neighbor? We will never agree with others 100% of the time; but, we should be able to agree to disagree and move on. Violence is never the answer. I pray that I am never in this situation or have to cover these acts; but, no one is immune from these actions as we simply can’t control what others do. Take the time, and as bad as it sounds, make a plan for if you are in this situation. Know your exits and prepare yourself in hopes that you don’t “freeze” in place. These are things you can never ever be fully prepared for. I hope and pray that these acts of violence will cease. But, until then, please be vigilant. 07/16/2024 11:00 PM

Improving Our Summer Eating Habits

Well, Summer is upon us; along with grilling season, long and busy days, ball games, 4-H events, lake days and various other extracurricular activities. Moral of the story? We are all busy and sometimes it can be hard to find the time to sit down and share a meal with family, let alone a balanced one. Sometimes it is just easier to grab that bag of chips from the pantry, or that donut off the counter.
