Storing Fruits and Veggies for Maximum Enjoyment
Storing Fruits and Veggies for Maximum Enjoyment
Now that summer is here, fresh fruits and vegetables are available everywhere, bringing with them the challenge of proper storage so we can enjoy every bite. The storage method that is utilized depends on the types of produce that you are keeping and where they are kept. 06/25/2024 11:00 PM

What a busy weekend it was. The inaugural Clasen Family Memorial junior/senior golf tournament was held on Saturday and I would say it was a success! We had 27 teams and kicked off a tradition I hope to continue for years to come. Wes and I are grateful for the opportunity to take over such a fun golf tournament and are looking for additional fundraising options as we are planning to provide scholarships to area graduating seniors in the years to come. The idea of hosting the tournament wouldn’t have happened without Cindi Brubaker asking if I would like to continue the junior/senior tournament in honor of my parents, or my husband who assured me that we could host the event, even when I wasn’t sure we had the time to do so. Thank you to Wes for cooking on Saturday, Cathy Coon for making cookies, Sherry Hewitt and Riverside Liquor for donating some goodies and Cindi for paving the way with the Frank Graves Memorial Tournament. We are honored to continue this tradition. Thank you also to all those that participated! I’m excited to find additional ways to add to the event and raise money for scholarships for future graduates. 06/25/2024 11:00 PM

Blue-Green Algae
Blue-Green Algae
Reports of harmful bluegreen algae in Kansas waterways have been coming in unusually early this year. This is possibly a result of warmer latespring weather and more rain events. Blue-green algae are not algae at all, but rather a type of bacteria called cyanobacteria. The bacteria thrive in warm, nutrient-rich water and, under the right conditions, can form blooms, called harmful algal blooms (HAB). 06/18/2024 11:00 PM

A Blueprint For Roads Ahead
A Blueprint For Roads Ahead
Although I am new to the City of Eureka, I have had the opportunity to surround myself with some very knowledgeable individuals and stakeholders throughout Eureka who all have one common goal in mind and that is taking pride in making Eureka better for everyone. To me as someone who is becoming acclimated with the city for the first time, I see the different views and passions of so many throughout the community. One thing that I had hoped when I accepted my position with the city was to build a team to strive and accomplish the many goals and objectives that the residents of Eureka are want- ing to attain. At first this team was assembled by the many great staff members who represent the City on a day to day basis and also the elected officials who give their many hours of volunteerism in those late night meetings that we participate in having every two weeks. 06/18/2024 11:00 PM

$29 I am simply amazed, honored and humbled that The Eureka Herald was named the Frank and Mamie Boyd Community Service Award recipient at the KPA Awards of Excellence event, last Friday. This is the first special award for The Eureka Herald and the Clasen family. This award wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my family, hardworking staff, fellow volunteers and our amazing community. As a third generation journalist, I must also note that this award also goes to my grandfather and father as they were the ones who paved the way and showed me first hand what it looked like to serve their communities. They were great role models for me. If only I had known that I would have followed in their footsteps, I would have paid more attention. 06/11/2024 11:00 PM
