Tornado Baseball Split With Cherryvale
Although Eureka outhit Cherryvale in both games last Thursday, April 25, at Cherryvale, they were only able to walk away with one win. Eureka recorded a total of 36 hits, including 5 homeruns.
In game one, Eureka started the game off with a single by Haydon Mead. A double by Ethan Westerman brought him home for the first run of the game. After taking the early 3-1 lead in the first, Eureka broke away in the second inning by scoring 6 more runs, courtesy of singles by Brent Escareno and Bradley Bohl, a double by Westerman and home runs by Garrison Spoonts and Brennan Lowe. With a 9-2 lead in the fourth, Spoonts hit his second homerun of the game to bring in three more runs. Eureka recorded yet another homerun in the sixth, off the bat of Westerman, to add two more runs. Three walks and three singles in the seventh helped the Tornadoes win 18-6.
Nine Tornadoes combined for 22 hits in game one, compared to Cherryvale’s 6. Westerman and Spoonts led the Tornadoes with 4 each, Lowe added 3, Mead, Escareno, Bohl, Cade Burden and Cole Strickler 2 each, and Cade Larcom 1.
