Council Looking Into Annexing Eureka Lake

At their regular meeting last Monday, Eureka city councilmembers continued discussion on annexing Eureka Lake into the city limits. Because the lake is owned by the city but not in the city limits, each lake lot leaseholder pays an annual $800 fee to the city, while paying property taxes for their homes/structures to the county. The city pays property taxes to the county for the land. If annexed, lake residents could own their lots and pay property taxes to the city. In various discussions over the years, the council has entertained the idea of annexation, but never taken action.
