Fancy Mustang 4-H Club
The Fancy Mustang 4-H Club held their monthly meeting on February 7 at the Neal Community Building. Gabe Oltman reported the club will do concessions at the Flint Hills Classic. Small animal weigh-in is April 20. Sydney Lindamood report-ed the club will be selling Kansas Made Pastries to raise money for fair ground improvements. The Club participated in model meeting at County 4-H Days on Feb. 10. Jersey Cox and Lylly Stapleford received mugs for getting a purple on their historian book from the last 4-H year. S. Lindamood gave a presentation on quilling and Henry and Charlie Lindamood gave a presentation on how to make corn hole boards. Two Marshall Elementary students, in Eureka, will continue their wrestling season as they placed in the top five at the Kansas Heartland Duals Qualifier. Lady Tornadoes Back-To-Back Sub-State Champions; To Play At 2A State This Wednesday
The Lady Tornado basketball team punched their ticket to the State Basketball tournament for the second season in a row, and for the third time in school history. Tornado Boys Basketball Concluded Season
The Eureka High School boys finished their season with a 2273 loss at Lyndon. This was the first round of sub-state and the Tornadoes drew the number one seeded Tigers, who are also ranked first in state. Eureka shot 19% for the game, including a 1 for 9 first quarter and a 0 for 10 third quarter. The first quarter shooting created an early deficit from which the Tornadoes were never able to recover. For the first time in school history, the West Elk Patriots were represented at the 4-1A Girls State Wrestling tournament. Patriot Senior Kayla Wright battled her way at the state tournament last week in Salina. Lady Tornado Basketball Victorious Over Olpe Eagles, 50-48
The Eureka Lady Tornadoes finished out the regular season last Monday, Feb. 19, claiming the road victory over the Olpe Eagles, 50-48. Olpe struck first, but Brenna Rucker tied it up quickly converting an offensive board into a putback. The teams continued scoring in alternating fashion. Rucker orchestrated a 5-0 run on her own with a free throw and four points in the paint before Olpe ended the spree with a free throw. With under 20 seconds left in the first quarter, junior Laynie Winfrey weaved her way through the lane, spinning off of her defenders, and scored the basket. Olpe managed to beat the buzzer with a reverse layup to conclude the first 8 minutes of play, Eureka leading 14-11. 02/27/2024 11:00 PM
