JERRY WADE OVERLEY

Jerry Wade Overley, 76, passed away June 6, 2021 in Wichita, Kansas. Jerry's life began on July 29, 1944 in Emporia, Kansas the son of Frank W. Overley and Vera (Gravatt) Overley. He spent his early life in Greenwood County, Kansas, at Hamilton. He was a graduate of El Dorado High School, Butler County Community College, and the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jerry also served his country in the United States Army Reserve.

EDWARD HARRISON “ED” HAWTHORNE

Edward Harrison “Ed” Hawthorne, age 99, formerly of Eureka, Kansas, passed away on June 5, 2021, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Unit in Wichita, KS. Ed was born May 25, 1922, in Eureka, KS, the son of Glen W. and Mildred (Green) Hawthorne. He attended rural grade school until 7th grade, when his family moved to town, and graduated from Eureka High School in 1940. He attended Wichita State University and Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO, graduating from the latter in 1942. In November of 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater in General Patton’s Third Army. He was honorably discharged in October 1945 after being wounded at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded a Purple Heart and an EAME Ribbon with 3 Bronze Service Stars.

FRED A. HAYS

Fred A. Hays, son of the late John D. and Lillian Rosena Amelia (Rathke) Hays, rode the last trail, Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 90, due to complications from a vehicle accident.
