W. DWIGHT CARRINGTON

W. Dwight Carrington, 78, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021, at St Joseph Hospital in Wichita, KS. Dwight was born September 21, 1943 in Eureka, KS, the son of Willard R. and Helen G. (Cannon) Carrington. He was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School.

He met Janet Rodman during high school in 1960 and said it was love at first sight. They were married October 13, 1962 and were blessed with three children, a daughter, Melinda and twin sons, Douglas and David. They just recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

For most of the 1960s they lived in the Wichita area where he worked in the aircraft industry (Boeing and Cessna). In 1969, they moved to Liberty, Mo. where they raised their family.

Throughout the 1970s he worked a variety of jobs (Kenworth, Lee Tire, US Gypsum) but ultimately he longed to be his own boss and ventured out into the automotive wholesale business where he worked for over 20 years until his retirement.

Dwight was a Chevy man and lived through the golden era of classic and muscle cars of the 50s, 60s and 70s. He especially liked Camaros, Chevelles, Corvettes, and Novas. He was rarely without a car to cruise in and attended many local, regional and national car shows.

Dwight accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1980 and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, Mo. for many years. He was involved in a variety of ministries including Evangelism Explosion. In Eureka, he was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church.

In 2008, Janet and Dwight returned to their hometown of Eureka to retire near their family. Dwight always found time to visit with his family, drive his cars, have coffee with friends, watch KU basketball, listen to music and care for the cats.

Dwight will be remembered for his good nature and kindness, his humility and his family. He was quick to smile and always had a kind word for others. He preferred to help others in quiet ways. He was a humble man and avoided the limelight. He was devoted to his wife, Janet. He leaves a rich legacy through his children and grandchildren, of which he was very proud.

Although we grieve for him today, we celebrate that he is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Janet, daughter, Melinda Cecil (Mark) of Zionsville, Ind., sons, Doug Carrington (Terri) of Dardenne Prairie, MO, and David Carrington (JoEllen) of Frisco, Texas. Seven grandchildren, Aaron Cecil (Lindsay), Katherine Mowery (Cody), Ashley Hruby (Brian), Skyler Carrington, Rebecca Carrington, Preston Carrington, and Taylor Carrington. Sisters, Alice Cook and Rose Mitchell (Paul) of Eureka.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Mary Martha Carrington, brother John Carrington, and infant twin grandsons, Nathan and Lance Carrington.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 30, at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Street Baptist Church, Eureka. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., with Pastor John Craighead officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson Street Baptist Church Youth Fund, 300 S. Jefferson St., Eureka, KS 67045.
