When Marvin was 14, the family moved to Eureka where Marvin attended school and graduated from Eureka High in 1949. Marvin joined the Air Force in 1951 and served through 1955, including a year in Korea. Upon his return from service, Marvin began his 30-year career at the El Dorado refinery, working through the Skelly, Getty, and Texaco years.

Through the years Marvin was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the Wichita Consistory as a 33rd Degree Mason. His great passion, however, was following Butler County Community College sports. As a Butler Booster, he could regularly be found in the stands at various sporting events. Marvin was very detail oriented and enjoyed working in his yard and around the house. He even did a little gardening, stocking their kitchen with homegrown tomatoes and other vegetables over many summers.

Marvin and Jane joined Trinity United Methodist Church in El Dorado in the 1970s and remained very active members. As Marvin got older, he kept up with local happenings through the newspaper and enjoyed watching sports on tv with his kids and grandchildren.
