Linda Sue downard
Linda Sue Downard, of Eureka, died Friday, October 28, 2022 in Lake Fork, Texas, at the age of 75.
Linda was born August 3, 1947. She was the daughter of Earl Dale and Betty Coon. She had an older sister Karen and a younger brother Mike.
Linda grew up in Eureka and attended the Eureka Public Schools. After graduating from Eureka High School in 1965, Linda attended Cosmetology School in Wichita, KS. She worked most of her career as a beautician in Topeka, KS.
From her first marriage, her one and only child, Matthew Ivan Wright was born. Linda considered Matt a true gift and she loved him with all her heart. Her greatest wish for Matt was to find true love and she was so happy when he found and married his true love, Heather, on October 2, 2021.
On May 29, 1993, she was united in marriage to Darby Downard and they made their home in Eureka. With this marriage, she was blessed with Darby’s two children, Alison Downard Laughlin and Cody Downard.
Alison and her husband Steve Laughlin gave Linda her first grandchildren, Aubrey and Tyson Laughlin. Matt’s marriage to Heather gave her two more grandchildren, Brock and Presley Nichols. She loved the times that she got to spend with them.
Linda’s favorite past time was going to the movies. Some movies she would see more than once. She preferred seeing them in the theater because she said it was just better on the big screen. She had the ability to remember details of a movie better than anyone.
Linda had the knack for decorating and making flower arrangmements. Her attention to details made everything beautiful. Her attention to detail flowed even into the way she dressed every day. Everything always matched right down to her jewelry, shoes and purse.
Linda loved taking their camper and going to Texas with Darby every year. She loved the area they went to and the many friends they met while there.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Betty Coon and her sister Karen Martin and Karen’s husband, Tom Martin.
Linda is survived by her husband, Darby Downard; son Matt Wright and his wife Heather and her two children, Brock and Presley; daughter, Alison and husband Steve Laughlin and their two children, Aubrey and Tyson; son Cody Downard and his wife Colleen; her brother Mike and his wife Ann Coon; nephew Shane Coon and his family; niece Kim Martin Beets and her family and many other family members and friends.
If you were fortunate enough to know Linda you know the love and kindness that she gave to everyone she met. She was always willing to help and give in any way she could.
Cremation has been effected and a private graveside service was held at the Greenwood Cemetery, in Eureka.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Reece Christian Church. Donations should be sent to the Reece Christian Church, 1303 E 40 Road, Eureka, KS 67045.
