Joyce Ann Richling

Joyce Ann Richling, 87, of Horton died on September 7, 2022, at Maple Heights Nursing Center in Hiawatha.

Joyce was born October 4th, 1934 at Horton, to Jacob S. and Jennie E. Torkelson. She went to a one room country school through 4th grade before she and her mother moved to Horton where she continued her schooling.

She married Harold Leo Richling on October 8, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Everest, KS. To this union 10 children were born, Sharon, David, James, Janice, Susan, Karen, Jeannie, Ginger, Amy and Shelly.

Joyce was a homemaker, a partner in Harold’s floor covering business and medical records clerk at TriCounty Manor until her retirement at age 75. Joyce and Harold maintained their home, raised their family and ran their business on 3rd Ave West. Joyce later moved to Arbor Knoll in Horton.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Sharon, David (Carol) Richling, James (Marcia) Richling, Susan Richling, Jeannie (Rick) Clouse, Ginger (Evans) Woehlecke, Amy (Jeff) Nichols and Shelly (Michael) Mayfield; 24 grandchildren, including Sheena (Kyle) Hollis and Lexie (Josh) Biering both of Eureka and 23 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Jerry Sanders and special friend Leslie Bartley.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Hinky, the love of her life; her sisters, Emma Galbraith, Milly Milburn and her brother, Roy Torkelson; two daughters, Karen Richling and Janice Sanders; grandson, Nicholas Richling; son-in-law, Marlin Sharon; her parents, Jacob S. and Jennie E. Torkelson and dear friends Jim and Ginger Schuetz and Arlene Wilson.

Joyce was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and a member of St. Leo’s Alter Society.

Rosary recitation was held on Sunday at 6 p.m., at the funeral home with visitation following. Memorial Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 12, at St. Leo Catholic Church, in Horton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to NEK Hospice in Horton. Contributions may be sent in care of Dishon Maple-Chaney Mortuary, 909 Central Ave, Horton, KS 66439, which was in charge of service arrangements.
