Irl O. ChastaIn

Irl Owen Chastain of Eureka, died on Monday, June 26, 2023, at his home, in Eureka, at the age of 90.

He was born on December 18, 1932, in Eureka, the son of John Frank and Ethel Emma (Sisson) Chastain. He was raised in Eureka and attended local schools. His father died when he was young and so he went to work at the bottling plant in town, giving all his earnings to his mother.

On February 12, 1952, Irl was united in marriage to Joan Purdum in Eureka. They made their home in Eureka. To this union, two children were born. He later worked for Greenwood County Road and Bridge, Russell and Sons Construction, and Wolf Creek Generating Station.

Irl is survived by his children: Irl F. Chastain of Eureka; and Debbie Vinson of Eureka; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and three siblings: Clyde Chastain of Kansas City, Kansas; Everett Chastain of Howard; and Virginia Jones of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Mary Lou Carroll, Arlie Eugene Chastain, and Gladys Morris.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka with Pastor Kevin Lawrence of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation has been effected. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Community LinC.
