DUSTIN SCOTT WYCKOFF

Dustin Scott Wyckoff, age 42, of Richmond, Missouri died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, following a brief illness.

Dustin was born Dec. 25, 1979, in Eureka, Kansas, to Debbie (Pryce) Wyckoff and David Wyckoff, and attended elementary and high school in the community. He was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, rising to the rank of Eagle Scout.

As a boy, he enjoyed antics with his friends on the family’s farm outside Eureka, building forts, riding a four-wheeler, and rolling through town – and onto the local golf course – with his motorcycle.

Dustin also loved helping out on his Wyckoff grandparents’ farm in Quincy, where he worked the farm, learned to drive at the wheel of an old yellow GMC pickup truck, and went on fishing expeditions with the family.

While at Eureka Junior and Senior High School, where he graduated in 1998, he was active on the Tornadoes football and wrestling teams and other sports. He was in the school band, where friends say he “blew the hell out of those tenor and bass saxophones.” After high school, Dustin attended Kansas State

After high school, Dustin attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, where he studied construction management. His education at K-State launched his career in construction in the Kansas City area, from working as a construction superintendent with Rafferty Construction Inc. to owning and operating his own construction company, DMA Construction Solutions.

He married Mandy Hyder of Richmond on March 2, 2006. The couple had two sons, Addlar Wyckoff and Anson Wyckoff, and he became stepfather to two daughters, Addie Lam and Averyl Lam.

When not involved in construction work – including the remodeling and concrete work in which he took great pride – Dustin coached his sons and other children in a range of youth sports and activities in Richmond. He was known among his family and friends for his love of cooking and barbecuing, his quick sense of humor and knack for bestowing nicknames, and his enthusiasm for Kansas City sports teams including the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and MLB’s Kansas City Royals.

Dustin was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Velta and Robert Wyckoff of Quincy, Kansas; maternal grandparents Doris and Floyd Pryce of Eureka, Kansas; and an uncle, Duane Pryce of El Dorado, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife, Mandy Wyckoff of Richmond; sons Addlar Wyckoff and Anson Wyckoff of Richmond; stepdaughters Addie Lam of Kansas City and Averyl Lam of Richmond; his mother, Debbie Wyckoff of Kansas City; his father, David Wyckoff of Eureka; his sister, Alicia (Wyckoff) Muller and her husband Mark of Kansas City, Missouri and their sons; and a “bonus” son, Blaze Roberts of Richmond.

In addition to a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family, Dustin is also survived by his mother-in-law, Bonnie Hyder of Richmond; and brother-in-law Brandon Hyder and his wife Brandie of Richmond and their children.

A visitation will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, followed immediately by a memorial service at 2 p.m., at Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St., Richmond, Missouri. Inurnment will be at a later date. Family and friends may share memories of Dustin with his family through the funeral home’s website, www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
