Dorothy Lee (Gore) Davis

Dorothy Lee (Gore) Davis went home to her Lord on July 28, 2023 in Eureka. Dorothy was born at the home of her parents, Olin Ray Gore and Bertha Edith (Roots) Gore on August 7, 1927. Dorothy was the third of four children. Dorothy was always proud of her roots in Sumner County, Kansas receiving her education in the school system of Wellington. While attending high school, Dorothy met a young farm man that proved to be the love of her life, John E. Davis. They married on July 22, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas, living on her mother-in-law’s farm located nine miles northwest of Wellington. Later the couple moved to Elk County, until 1964 when they purchased property two miles west of Severy, where she resided until her death.

Dorothy and John were blessed with the birth of three daughters: Jean Marie, Janice Elaine, and Joyce Ann.

Dorothy was a faithful member of the Howard Christian Church, in Howard, as well as attended the Severy United Methodist Church, in Severy. She worked parttime for the US Postal Service in Severy during the late ‘60s. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker determined to raise their daughters in the Christian faith. She rarely missed any activity where her loved ones were participants, attending countless church and school activities, rodeos and any other events cheering the loudest while sitting in the front row! She recently became a devout Kansas City Chiefs fan taking their victories and defeats personally. Acting as Mrs. Santa Claus in Severy and Fall River communities brought her great joy.

“Grandma Dot” befriended every person that crossed her path leaving lasting memories of mischief in her wake.

Dorothy was preceded by her parents, Olin and Bertha Gore; her husband, John E. Davis; daughters, Jean Marie and Joyce Ann; siblings, Edith Olene Bender, Bert Eugene Gore, and Verneada Rae England; as well as grandson, Heath Dean Brown.
