DaviD William Culbertson

Your unassuming soul was taken away too early little brother.

You are in God’s hands now. Forever in His loving arms.

David William Culbertson age 53, was born November 3, 1969 and passed away June 24, 2023. David was born in the fall of 1969 in Eureka, a small rural community, to Marilyn Louise Culbertson and Leo “Dale” Culbertson. David’s siblings were much older with Teresa, 9 years his senior and Steve 8 years older. He was the “little brother” that undoubtedly was lovingly coerced into many adventures as a child. An extremely shy child, his outgoing siblings tried to help him overcome that trait as best as they knew how.

David graduated from Eureka High School in 1988 and started a career and a new found interest in cooking. His love for cooking took him through many years and many different restaurants/facilities in Kansas and eventually ending up in Espanola, N.M. cooking for children at head start schools, Presbyterian Medical Services. He loved those little kids and mentioned them often.

Moving from Kansas in 2010 to New Mexico, David started a new chapter in his life. He loved New Mexico, so different from the scenery and life in Kansas. Leaving Kansas was key to his internal happiness.

David eventually moved to beautiful Alamogordo, N.M. This is where he was destined to be just a minutes away from White Sands National Park, that he affectionately called his “other girlfriend.”

He landed a great job at Desert Lakes Golf Course and 19th Hole Grill and Bar in September of 2020. The crew he worked with were to become some of the best friends, confidants and supporters of his talent for art, music and most certainly cooking.

He was an accomplished, self-taught guitarist who could play many different genres and wrote his own music. His second and equal love was his passion for art. David’s years of painting, sculpting and lastly his experimentation with resin art changed like the wind. His emotions drove his creativity. Some dark years when his art reflected his inner sadness, then transitioning later to a more positive style.

David was a complicated yet simple man. His numerous close friends would mention his kind heart and giving soul as who he really was. He was finding happiness with the help of his dear friends but still trying to expel the sadness he carried with him.

Our lives will be forever changed without him on this earth. As I write this, my heart aches along with our entire family. He is dearly missed beyond words. Our blessing was we all saw him for Mom’s 90 th birthday just 2 weeks prior to his tragic death. We will always be thankful for that weekend of laughs, music and family.

David was preceded in death by our Dad, Dale Culbertson, who passed November 12, 2021. Mom, Marilyn Culbertson, is currently living in Severy, with older brother Steve Culbertson. His sister Teresa Culbertson Hoover resides in Wheatland, Wyo. with her husband Tim. David has 3 cousins living in Kansas, Steve’s children, Toni, Mark and Meagan along with their children. His 4th cousin Tyler Clevett, son of Teresa, resides in Bonita Springs Fla.

David’s life was taken in an accidental house fire. As hard as it is to understand why, friends and family want to know how he died in order to find closure.

In honor of David’s love for art, he always requested the support for local artists and their dedication to the craft.

A small service will be held in Eureka and another in Alamogordo, N.M. No dates have been set at this time.

Thank you for your love and support. The Culbertson Family
