Daniel Joseph Slead

Daniel Joseph Slead of Eureka, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, September 5, 2022, at his home, in Eureka, at the age of 74.

He was born on May 9, 1948, in Eureka, the son of Delbert and Mary L. (Grubaugh) Slead. He attended grade school in Hamilton and in Eureka, and attended Eureka High School, and he later received his GED while serving in the US Navy.

In January 1966, Dan enlisted in the US Navy, seeing several tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the military in March of 1990 after completing 23 years of service to his country.

On February 6, 1969, Dan was united in marriage to Clara V. LaVanway in San Diego, California. To this union, two daughters were born, Deanna Jo and Lori Ann.

On January 6, 1989, Dan was united in marriage to MaeBeth Postlethwait in Reno, Nevada, making their home at the time in Fortuna, California, where he was serving in the Navy at Centerville Beach Naval Base at Ferndale.

After retiring from the Military and moving to Great Bend, Dan went to work at Abercrombie Drilling, as a mechanic. Later he worked as an oiler for a construction company, and as a Correctional Officer at the El Dorado Correctional Facility in El Dorado, where he took another retirement to live in Eureka. He and MaeBeth retired to Eureka and resided there until his passing.

He is survived by his wife, MaeBeth of the home; daughter, Lori Ann and husband, Aaron Davis; grandson, Matthew Maxson and fiancé, Kelsie Davis; great-granddaughter Lakelynn Davis; daughter, Beth Postlethwait; granddaughter, Shelby and husband, Tony Kordupel; and great-granddaughter, Makayla Kordupel. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Arzella Lahar, and James Slead; first wife, Clara; daughter, Deanna Jo; and grandsons, Cody and Dustin Hertter.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2022, at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. Cremation has been effected. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Eureka Nursing Center.
