CAROL SUE (PURKEYPILE) HAWLEY

Carol Sue Hawley, 85, a long-time resident of Fredonia, died on July 14, 2022.

She was born on August 17, 1936, in Emporia, the daughter of Harold and Ruth Purkeypile (Morris). Her mother passed away when she was a few days old; many aunts and uncles helped raise her until her father remarried Martha (Wilson) Purkeypile.

She attended schools in Wichita and later Eureka, from where she graduated.

On November 21, 1954, she was united in marriage to Loren Wayne Hawley of Toronto, in Coffeyville.

She was a homemaker for many years until her children were older, then she became employed at Fredonia High School in the food service department She worked there for 12 years.

She is survived by four children, Brenda Coburn of Harrisonville, Mo., Rick Hawley of Park City; Cindy Hawley of Fredonia and Kathy Younh of Irrigon, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren.

She was a long-time member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

A Celebration of Life will take place on July 22, at 10 a.m. at the Eureka Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1710 East River Street, Eureka, KS 67045. A short graveside service will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, with a luncheon following, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fredonia Seventh Day Adventist Building Fund or Fredonia Pound Pals through Countryside Funeral Home, 420 South 20 th Fredonia, KS 66736, who are in charge of service arrangements.
