K-State Beef Stocker Field Day

My husband is a simple man, rarely gets overly worked up about anything. But every year around the first of August he gets pretty excited. It usually happens one evening when we are sitting at home, and we hear the first low rumble of a cattle pot going through our small town in Beaumont. His face gets bright and he always says “So it begins!”-Shipping time.

Most of us who have been around the Flint Hills know that when the trucks start rolling in, summer is nearly here; and when they come around again, summer is winding down. And for many producers, my husband included, it’s an exciting time of year.
