Hamilton City Superintendent Position Remains Open For Applicant Submissions
Licensed Operator Dean Hermesch attended last week’s Hamilton City Council meeting after being contacted by an official. Hermesch was requested to attend to afford for discussion of him covering responsibilities associated with water/sewer while the city superintendent position remains unfilled. While present, Hermesch shared that he had retired from a similar capacity with the City of Olpe a year ago and has since been filling in parttime as needed. Following discussion of mileage, as Hermesch resides near Olpe, and compensation, members of the council approved hiring him as a contract laborer. A rate of $25 for one weekly visit for an hour, 45 miles round trip at .67 cents per mile and $20 an hour if additional hours are required were included in discussion. Estimated pay per month was shared at $220. The position of City Superintendent remains open for application submissions.

Greenwood County Historical Society Held February Meeting -
The Feb. 6 meeting of the Greenwood County Historical Society board was called to order by President Mike Pitko, with the introduction of Taylor Hunt, new board member elected in December 2023.

Community Benefit WEC
The Community Benefit Women’s Educational Club (WEC), Greenwood County, held their monthly meeting at the Eureka United Methodist Church, at noon on Feb. 15. Hostess was Rev. Linda Pope. Eighteen members answered roll call by sharing a nickname.

County-Wide Scholarship Accepting Applications
Applications are now being accepted for the Barbara Robison Nicholas scholarship, given through the Greenwood County Historical Society. This is a $300 scholarship available to any high school senior that lives in Greenwood County. The scholarship is open to seniors attending public school or home school.

West Elk Patriots will be represented by three wrestlers this week at the 3-1A boys state tournament in Salina, as senior Evan Coble, junior Creyo Koop and sophomore Edward Metcalf all punched their tickets to the state tournament.

Placed First At Regional Contest
Marshall Elementary fifth grader Molly Dehlinger claimed first place honors, in the 11-yearold girls division, at the Garden Plain Knights of Columbus Regional Free Throw Contest last Sunday, Feb. 19, when she made 21 of 25 free throws.

USD 386 Board Of Education Revisited Discussion Of Building Use During Inclement Weather
The Madison/Virgil USD 386 Board of Education heard from Superintendent Tammy Baird who revisited discussion pertaining to building use during inclement weather. Baird noted she had consulted the school’s attorney who suggested, and she agreed, that the school district facilities stay closed during inclement weather days. She advised that this would include not having recreation team practices on those days as well.
