The Eureka Lady Tornadoes opened the 2023-2024 season on the road versus the Independence Bulldogs on Friday, December 1. After a nearly undefeated season and a state appearance, the Lady Tornadoes had much to prove. The West Elk Patriot wrestling teams opened their winter season last Friday, December 1, at the Wildcat Duals in Burlington. Patriot junior Creyo Koop went 5-0 at the tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team. He also pinned the four opponents he faced, with a combined total of 1:05 for the second place finish with the most pins in the fastest time. He won by default against Iola. The Eureka High School boys basketball team opened their season last Friday night with a 17-67 loss to the Independence Bulldogs. Playing the 4A Bulldogs, on opening night on the road, was a challenge the young Tornadoes were unable to meet.
