Ladies Claimed Win Over Cherryvale And Earned Seventh Straight TVL Championship Title

In what was set to be a marquee Tri-Valley League (TVL) game between two league frontrunners, the Eureka Lady Tornadoes defeated the Cherryvale Chargers 73-65 on the road on Thursday, Feb. 15. Junior Laynie Winfrey put on quite the show with a double-double performance and a layup that sent the two teams into overtime so Eureka could secure another league victory and their seventh consecutive league title.

Tornado Basketball Fell To Erie

The Eureka Tornado boys played two games last week, a loss to Erie at home and a win against Cherryvale on the road. Both games demonstrated that the Tornadoes continue to improve as the season progresses. In both games, the Tornadoes offense showed major signs of coming to life as their shooting was more effective and their turnovers were in the acceptable range.

Against Cherryvale, the Tornadoes ended each half blistering hot from the field and the charity stripe, effectively ending any chance Cherryvale had to pull out the win. The Chargers started hitting shots in the second half themselves, but the Tornadoes kept them at arm’s length with strong rebounding and good defense. Eureka’s leading scorer was Jace Nixon with 22 points. Laken Valentine had 15, Lyle Perrier had 12, Cole Adkins had 11 and Cole Ptacek added 3. Adkins and Perrier led the Tornadoes in rebounding with 11 and 9 respectively.
