The Madison Bulldogs basketball teams began their sub-state tournament with wins last week, as both the girls and boys defeated Yates Center. The boys (#3, 9-10) defeated the Wildcats 5817 last Thursday and advance to semifinal action against Colony-Crest #2, 10-9 on Thursday, Feb. 29, TBD. The girls (#3, 14-5) defeated Yates Center 62-21 last Friday and will face the Eagles of Olpe (#2, 15-4) on Friday, March 1, at 6 p.m. Both semifinal games will be held at Rosalia- Flinthills. The winners will advance to the championship round on Saturday, March 2, at Rosalia. The boys championship game will be held at 5 p.m., with the girls championship game following at 6:30 p.m.
Mayor Richard Clark called the Feb. 5 meeting of the Howard City Council to order at 7:30 p.m. with council members Martin Hunter, Jerrad Pope and Gary Harrod present. Derek Cookson was absent. Also present were Shilo Crupper, Sarah Evans and Clerk Joanna Hunter.
Three Patriot boy wrestlers traveled to Salina last Thursday, Feb. 22, for the three-day 3-1A State Wrestling Tournament.
Tornado freshman Mason Hughes claimed a fourth place finish at the Eureka 3-1A Regional Wrestling tournament last Saturday and punched his first ticket to the state tournament this Thursday-Saturday, in Salina.
