Ladies Defeated Humboldt Cubs

The Eureka girls basketball team had a goal going into the Humboldt game; to play with the same intensity and poise they showed in the previous game against Fredonia. The poise was there but the intensity was not. Eureka pulled out a hard fought 46-37 victory over the Cubs.

“Not trying to make excuses, but I’m sure sickness played into it,” stated Coach Shelly Hoyt. “We haven’t had everyone in practice for over a week now. But, the girls fought through and got the win. I was proud of them.”

The Lady Tornadoes got a first quarter spark from senior Tara Witham. Witham recorded three steals in the quarter that turned into seven points for her team, five of which were hers. Eureka led 12-11 after the first stanza.
