Although I may possess the “workaholic” trait passed through generations, I’ve learned over the years how vital it is to take time for yourself. I’m still not the best at taking time for myself, but I have gotten better at scheduling staff development days. The most recent Herald staff development day took us to the City of Eureka’s gun range, where we participated in a mock certification shoot with Greenwood County Sheriff ’s Office personnel. Each year, local law enforcement undergo the re-certification, and out of curiosity, our staff asked if we could participate. We knew it wasn’t for “real,” but wanted to participate in the process. Although I didn’t do as well as I had hoped for, had I been re-certifying, I would have passed both times.
