Did you ever think the how and the when of re-opening our schools would become a national political hot potato? Neither did I.
I do remember the 1960s when federal aid to education was a contentious issue. That was back then I was young and didn’t think too much about it. I also hadn’t yet learned about unfunded federal mandates. Our federal government promptly educated us about such directives. “We are going to tell you what you have to do. You have to figure out a way to pay for it.”
In theory, control of our children’s education lies with the local district. I believe that on the whole we, as parents, are reasonably well informed about what we want for our children. I know that back in the day, Billie and I strove mightily to see that our sons had those opportunities. I believe this is something parents still do.
