He loved to garden, enlisting all of his kids to help him tend to the weeds and bugs, as his gardens were always very large. Richard was an avid reader, reading every Zane Grey book ever written.

He raised horses in his younger years, and loved horse racing. His favorite was the Kentucky Derby.

Richard is survived by his children, Jeffrey Allen and wife Maggie of Lafayette, CO; Chad and wife Angela of Moline, KS; Cynthia Lopez and husband Adam of Independence, KS; Deborah Eastman of Bartlesville, OK; Diana Wintle and husband Bob of Parsons, KS; Karla Julian and husband Steve of Molie, KS; Lori Talley and husband John Eureka, KS; 17 Grandchildren; and 19 Great-granchildren, with 2 more joining the family soon; and one brother, Don Allen of Monticello, CO.
