Mary Leigh Doane

Mary Leigh Doane passed away November 1, 2017 at the age of 55. Mary was born in Eureka, KS on October 28 to Melvin and Joyce (Jacobs) Doane. Mary attended Severy Grade School then graduated from West Elk High School in 1982. She continued her education at Butler County Community College earning her associates degree in 1993 and Emporia State University earning her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts in 2004. Mary and Eldon made their home in rural Eureka, where they farmed and enjoyed the beauty of country life. Mary worked at Ferguson Manufacturing. She was a CNA and dietary aide at Medicalodge, Eureka Nursing Center and Grand Villas. Mary worked at a group home for special needs individuals in El Dorado. Mary was an active parent while her children were members of Greenwood County 4-H and continued as a project leader after they grew up. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting and knitting gifts. Mary attended the local Quilt Guild when her schedule allowed. She was always willing to help others. Grandma was her passion, she loved spending time with her 6 grandchildren. Mary is survived by her longtime companion Eldon Austin of the home; Daughters, Leigha Warden of Madison and Lacie Shirley and husband Jeff of Houston, TX; 6 grandchildren: Zoie, Kellen, IraLynn, AereAna, Eddelle, and Jakob; her parents Melvin and Joyce Doane of Winfield; sisters, Amy Lance and husband Chris of Winfield, Bobbie Coldwell and husband Richard of Fort Worth, TX; brothers, Calvin Doane and companion Paula of Kiowa, and Frank Doane and wife Tammy of Howard, Mary was preceded in death by her son Chris Austin. Visitation was held Friday, November 10 from 2-4 p.m. at the Severy United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the Chris Austin Memorial Fund at Home Bank and Trust Eureka or Severy, KS to assist her grandchildren with college expenses and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
