Carolyn Mae Saunders, 84, of Augusta, died on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Homestead of Augusta. She was born on September 9, 1933, in Eureka, the daughter of Clarence and Leta (Biggs) Hillman. She was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. After graduation, she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Eureka. In 1959, she transferred to Hutchinson. On January 10, 1960, she was united in marriage to Leonard Saunders in Eureka. They made their home in Hutchinson and later moved to Wichita in the early-60’s. To this union two children were born. She retired from Bell in the early 90’s and they moved to Augusta in 1998. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka. She is survived by her husband, Leonard; two children, Bruce Saunders of Wichita; and Brenda Saunders of Wichita; two grandchildren, Kayla Booker and Bryce Saunders; and two sisters, Ann Rice of Denver, Colorado; and Joyce Hillman of Maize. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, David Hillman, and Larry Hillman. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 9, at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Pastor Warren Olson of the Hamilton United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
