Charles Wayne “Sonny” McCoy

Charles Wayne “Sonny” McCoy of Neal, Kansas went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on June 4th, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by family and love, at his home just an eighth of a mile from the very spot where his life began. Sonny was born on October 18, 1939, to Charles William and Iva (Mollett) McCoy in Neal. He was raised in rural Greenwood County, attending local schools, and graduated from Tonovay High School in May 1957. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Laura Jean Brown.

Together they raised their family and farmed in Neal area. Sonny’s roots ran deep in the Kansas soil; he spent his entire life working, loving, and building a legacy in the same community that shaped him He is survived by his wife, Laura of the home; four children: Kevin and wife, Marilee McCoy of Eureka; Russ and wife, Tracy McCoy of Neal; Rueland “Rudy” and wife, Trina McCoy of Eureka; and Leslie Mc-Coy and husband, Rick Taylor of Valrico, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one brother: Cecil and wife, Carlyn McCoy of Stigler, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings: Floyd McCoy, Dorothy Poe, Roy McCoy, Bill McCoy, Raymond McCoy, and Janice Milner.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Neal Evangelical Free Church, with Pastor Larry Evans officiating. Cremation has been effected. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Neal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Neal Evangelical Free Church or to the Neal Community Building.
