Special Needs Teen Found At Beaumont Rest Area Thursday Morning

Early last Thursday morning, a 17-year-old Oklahoma boy with special needs was found at the Beaumont Rest Area. A custodian for the rest area found the boy around 6 a.m. and called the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office as no vehicles were in the area and the teen was unable to communicate as he was later discovered to be a non-verbal autistic individual.

The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office tried various tactics to communicate with the young man to learn his identity, but ultimately asked the community for help via social media. In the evening hours last Thursday, a former teacher of the teen was able to successfully identify the Oklahoma boy.
