Extension District Proposal Given To Commissioners
The idea of Greenwood County’s Extension Council districting with nearby counties was revisited at last Tuesday’s commission meeting, when a room-full of extension representatives proposed joining forces with Elk and Chautauqua Counties, as part of their Rolling Prairie district. Greenwood County extension board member Jannette Luthi began the discussion by introducing those present, including Greg Davis, local extension council and the state extension advisory council; Shari Kaminska, Elk County Commissioner, Arlene Edwards and Joni Booth, local extension council; Jim Lundquist, K-State Extension; Jami McNutt, Southeast Kansas Extension; and Lindsay Shorter and Jayne Whitson, Greenwood County Extension agents.
Luthi and Davis believed that the biggest benefit to joining the district would be the return on investment the county would get by combining resources. Chautauqua and Elk Counties each have one extension agent, who would be shared with Greenwood County if the district was approved. Each agent would specialize in key areas based on community needs.
