Eureka Voters Narrowed Mayor Race To Two
A total of 370 votes were cast for the Eureka City Mayor primary race, held last Tuesday, August 6. Voters chose up to two of the four candidates that appeared on the ballot, with the two winning candidates moving on to the general election in November. Stephen Eric Coulter received the most votes with 244 (50.31%) and Kevin Lawrence came in second with 146 (30.1%). Tim Watchous received 66 (13.61%) votes and Larry L. Moore received 29 (5.98%).
There are a total of 1,737 registered voters in the city of Eureka, making the voter turnout 21.3%.
The votes were canvassed by Greenwood County Commissioners this Monday, August 12. There was one provisional ballot cast, but it could not be counted as the voter was not registered to vote in Eureka and failed to complete the registration card on the day of the election. Election workers did a hand-count of all ballots cast and their results matched the electronic count.
