Appointed To House Of Representatives

The people of the 13th District have a new State Representative, as the Republican Committee, in District 13, appointed Joe Newland of Neodesha to be Larry Hibbard’s successor.

Last Saturday, July 27, 60 delegates met in Yates Center for a special Republican Convention of the Kansas District 13. A total of 60 delegates (precinct committeemen and committeewomen) were in attendance, representing Greenwood, Wilson, Woodson, and a portion of both Elk and Neosho Counties.

During the convention, Ben Weber of Yates Center and Newland were nominated by the delegates. The two were asked a variety of questions before the delegates voted on the appointment. A total of 81 votes, 21 were proxy votes from delegates who were unable to attend, were cast with the committee selecting Newland.
