After closing in December 2021, the assisted living center in Eureka is getting much needed renovations. Formerly Vintage Park at Eureka, The Mapleton - Eureka is expected to open this coming spring.

Martha Francis
Martha Ann Shaw was born on November 30, 1928 on the family farm Northwest of Eureka. She was baptized in the Upper Fall River Lutheran Church at a young age. Her education was achieved at Hawthorne School, Piedmont Elementary and Eureka Elementary, graduating from the 8th Grade at Loy School and from Eureka High School in 1945. She attended College of Emporia and Wichita State University.

Fruit tree bark is a tasty alternative, and often favorite, food source for mice in the winter. Mice will chew through the outer layer of bark at the base of trees. Heavy feeding from the mice reduces the trees’ ability to transport food to the roots and can result in death.

Greenwood County Awarded Grant For Election Security
On Monday, December 18, Greenwood County Commissioners heard from County Clerk Kathy Robison in regards to election security and equipment. Robison shared that a grant had been awarded for election security. The total project for the amount of $33,550.30, the county paying 10% and the state reimbursing for 90%, would go towards needed work to secure election equipment and would also include locking file cabinets and a trailer to transport equipment. Commissioners approved to proceed with the grant project.
