To Host 3-1A Regionals This Saturday
The Eureka Tornadoes boys wrestling team will host 3-1A Wrestling Regionals this Saturday, Feb. 17, with matches beginning at 9 a.m. A total of 24 teams will be competing at the contest, with the top four in each weight class advancing to the boys 3-1A State Wrestling Tournament, at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina next Thursday, Feb. 22-Saturday, Feb. 24.

Terry Fankhauser
On Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, we bid farewell to Terry Fankhauser, a beloved figure born in Eureka, on October 16, 1970, to Larry and Mary Clark Fankhauser. Terry’s journey began at Madison High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1989, later pursuing football at Ft. Scott Community College, and earning his undergraduate and Masters in Ruminant Nutrition at Kansas State University.

“Eating Frozen Canned Foods. Good Idea or Not?”
It obviously wasn’t the goal, but power outages with the extreme cold weather we faced recently may have allowed canned or jarred food to freeze and become unsafe to consume. Let’s look at some tips to keep those foods safe to eat. If you have canned foods, either home canned or commercially canned, in a storage location that froze, first check for broken seals or seams in metal cans or broken glass in home canned foods due to the expansion of food and liquids inside those containers.

Constance June (O’Connell) Bratton Hart
Constance June (O’Connell) Bratton Hart passed away on Jan. 23, 2024. She was born on Dec. 11, 1940 to Harold Kenneth O’Connell and Gladys Armilda (Benton) O’Connell. Connie’s younger childhood was spent moving from place to place due to her dad’s profession as a welder, but the family settled in Eureka. Connie graduated from Eureka High School in 1959. She met Edmond Wayne Bratton during her Senior year and the two were married on Aug. 28, 1959. Eddie and Connie were happily married for 38 years before Eddie passed away from cancer in 1998.

Local Working Group Meeting To Be Held Feb. 20
The Eureka Management Unit, Greenwood, Coffey, Woodson and Wilson County Conservation Districts, will be hosting a Local Working Group (LWG) meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. at 605 S. 3rd Street, in Burlington.
