Lady Tornado Basketball Victorious Over Olpe Eagles, 50-48
The Eureka Lady Tornadoes finished out the regular season last Monday, Feb. 19, claiming the road victory over the Olpe Eagles, 50-48. Olpe struck first, but Brenna Rucker tied it up quickly converting an offensive board into a putback. The teams continued scoring in alternating fashion. Rucker orchestrated a 5-0 run on her own with a free throw and four points in the paint before Olpe ended the spree with a free throw. With under 20 seconds left in the first quarter, junior Laynie Winfrey weaved her way through the lane, spinning off of her defenders, and scored the basket. Olpe managed to beat the buzzer with a reverse layup to conclude the first 8 minutes of play, Eureka leading 14-11.

Tough Action Needed To End Biden/ Mayorkas Border Crisis
According to the latest census data, 396,192 people call Wichita home. In December 2023 nearly that many people, 371,036, attempted to cross our borders, but were stopped and processed by the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP). And in January of this year, southwest border encounters increased 124% compared to January 2021. Add in the number of known and unknown gotaways – those people who evaded CBP – and the number of people illegally entering our country every month jumps even higher.

Participated At Citizenship In Action Conference
On Feb. 18 and 19, seven Greenwood County 4-H’ers attended the Citizenship in Action conference in Topeka. The purpose of the event is for Kansas youth to learn how the state legislative process works and how their voice and participation in decision-making can make a difference in their local communities. The legislative visit included a trip to the capitol building, and also showed them how they can affect the legislative process. While there, delegates had the chance to debate on an upcoming bill and even vote on them. They also had the opportunity to meet with our District House and Senate legislators, and to sit in on a committee meeting. Those in attendance were Brooke Gaines, Savannah Bruno-Pelky, Sydney Lindamood, Jersey Cox, Reece Winder, Cooper Boone and Sutton Nelson. We are very proud of all our delegates and the commitment they have made to “Make the Best Better” with their time and effort to attend.
