Placed At 6U And Elementary State
Two Marshall Elementary students, in Eureka, will continue their wrestling season as they placed in the top five at the Kansas Heartland Duals Qualifier. Sixth graders Felix Neill and Adleigh Ray placed fourth and fifth, respectively, and will represent Eureka at the Kansas Heartland Duals later this month.

Nine ECW Cobras Advance To Kids State Contest
Nine Elk County Wrestling (ECW) club members punched their ticket to the state contest this weekend in Topeka, as they placed in the top four at the District 2 Championships held in Mulvane last Saturday, March 2.

2024 Emporia Area Match Day Applications Made Available Monday
The 11th annual greater Emporia Area Match Day, hosted by the Emporia Community Foundation, (ECF) will be November 18, 2024, as approved by the ECF Board of Directors. Ruth Wheeler, 2024 Match Day Chair, said, “Match Day plays an important role in the finances for many smaller non-profits who are selected in our communities. Match Day is truly ECF’s gift to the community.”

Fancy Mustang 4-H Club
The Fancy Mustang 4-H Club held their monthly meeting on February 7 at the Neal Community Building. Gabe Oltman reported the club will do concessions at the Flint Hills Classic. Small animal weigh-in is April 20. Sydney Lindamood report-ed the club will be selling Kansas Made Pastries to raise money for fair ground improvements. The Club participated in model meeting at County 4-H Days on Feb. 10. Jersey Cox and Lylly Stapleford received mugs for getting a purple on their historian book from the last 4-H year. S. Lindamood gave a presentation on quilling and Henry and Charlie Lindamood gave a presentation on how to make corn hole boards. The club also met for a joint meeting with the Harmony Sunflowers on March 3.

Area Wrestlers To Compete At Inaugural Duals
The first ever Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association (KWCA) Kansas Shrine Duals will be held on Sunday, March 17 and two area wrestlers will be featured in the event. The event will be held at Newman University’s Fugate Gymnasium, in Wichita.

Pool Director Being Sought For Eureka Aquatic Park
With the pool season fast approaching, the Eureka Recreation Commission (ERC) is seeking applicants for the pool director position at Eureka Aquatic Park. During their routine monthly meeting, last Wednesday, Feb. 28, ERC Chairman Austin Evenson shared that current Director Laura Neill had expressed she would no longer be serving in that capacity. The ERC has opened the position and is accepting applications through March 15. See related ad on page 6 for more information.

Greenwood To Serve As County Road And Bridge Supervisor
Following two executive sessions, each for the duration of 10-minutes, Greenwood County Commissioners approved moving Allen Greenwood, who had been serving as department Foreman, to the position of Road and Bridge Supervisor, during their weekly meeting on Monday of this week. Action was taken following a 10-minute executive session for employee performance with Greenwood in attendance and a 10-minute executive session for discussion of personnel evaluation. Greenwood will begin serving in the position at a rate of $25.68 per hour. John Schouten, who has been officially serving in the role since November of 2023 (and had stepped into the position at an interim capacity earlier that fall), was approved to serve as Heavy Equipment Operator at $19.92 an hour.
