Eureka Downs will wrap up its 2026 fall racing season this weekend, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, bringing the historic Greenwood County track’s first season of live horse racing since 2010 to a close.
The final two days of racing will mark the conclusion of a six-day fall meet that began Oct. 17, ending more than 16 years without live horse racing at the facility.
Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. each race day, with the first race scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Approximately 25 minutes will separate races, with eight to 10 races planned for each day.
General admission is $5 and includes access to outdoor seating, covered seating and the grandstand bleachers. Additional seating options are available in the Turf Club for an additional fee.
Eureka Downs is operated by the Greenwood County Fair Association (GCFA), which last hosted live racing at the facility in 2010 amid funding challenges. The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission (KRGC) oversees the regulation of pari-mutuel wagering at the track.
The GCFA initially planned for 12-race days during the fall meet. However, additional funding needed by the KRGC for operational expenses prompted the GCFA board to draft a revised budget allowing for six race days this fall.
With the final weekend approaching, attention is also turning toward the future of horse racing in Kansas. Officials have discussed expanding racing opportunities, with a goal of holding more than 12 race dates next year and hopes of increasing that number by 2028.
