Greenwood County is welcoming Natalie Boone to a new role with K-State Research and Extension. Boone began serving as the Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent in October 2026, bringing a background in education, agriculture, business, and community involvement to the position.
Originally from Beatrice, Neb., Boone made Greenwood County home after marrying her husband, Brance, a Greenwood County native. Together, they have four children: Cooper, Wyatt, Truett, and Landree. The family lives on one of the original Boone family ranch sites in Greenwood County and operates Boone Cattle Company.
Boone holds a master’s degree in education from Fort Hays State University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing. Before joining K-State Re-search and Extension, she taught agriculture at Hamilton Schools and business at Madison-Virgil High School. During her teaching career, she founded Bulldog Ink, a student-run business, and established the Hamilton FFA chapter, creating opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, explore careers, and serve their community.
In her new role, Boone will focus on Family and Consumer Sciences programming while sharing responsibilities in 4-H and Youth Development. She describes herself as a “community connector,” aiming to make K-State Research and Extension a relevant, accessible resource for Greenwood County residents.
For Boone, that starts with listening to the community, identifying local needs, and connecting people with resources, educational opportunities, and one another. She hopes to build relationships with families, schools, businesses, community organizations, and volunteers to develop programs that reflect the county’s interests and priorities.
Drawing on her experience founding Bulldog Ink at Madison-Virgil High School, she hopes to help young people explore entrepreneurship, learn practical business skills, and turn their ideas into opportunities. She is also interested in connecting young mothers with helpful resources and educational programming related to family well-being, budgeting, nutrition, and navigating the challenges of raising a family.
Family and Consumer Sciences Extension programming provides practical, research- based information to help individuals and families make informed decisions and strengthen their everyday lives. Boone hopes to build on these resources by developing meaningful community partnerships and finding new ways to reach residents who could benefit from Extension programs.
“I want Greenwood County Extension to be a place where people know they can turn for information, resources, and connections,” Boone said. “I want to listen to the community, understand what matters to people, and help connect them with opportunities that make a difference.”
Boone’s broader vision is to make Extension a resource people recognize, understand, and feel comfortable turning to. By listening to residents and responding to local needs, she hopes to strengthen Extension’s connection with the community and show how its resources can improve everyday life.
Boone encourages Greenwood County residents to share their ideas, interests, and suggestions for future programming as she begins this new chapter. Through youth entrepreneurship, family resources, 4-H opportunities, and other community- driven programs, she hopes to bring people, resources, and opportunities together to help Greenwood County thrive.
