The Madison Senior Center once used to be a hub for the older community to get together daily to eat meals and enjoy fellowship.
Somewhere along the way (maybe Covid), that has stopped. Maybe folks don’t realize that is still an option. Whatever the case, the workers at our local center are on a campaign to get more people coming through their doors daily to eat meals together at the center.
If they don’t get numbers up, then the center won’t be open for dining.
Do you know someone who might not only appreciate not having to cook meals, but also would like an opportunity daily to interact with others in our community by enjoying fellowship eating at the Senior Center?
Maybe it’s a grandparent, someone recently widowed, your neighbors. Not everyone has Facebook to see this, but maybe word of mouth will help get the word out.
I have been told if they don’t get the numbers up, the center will no longer be open for noon meals, but they would keep delivering meals to those who need them.
The meals are open to anyone but price is based on age.
Prices are $4 for ages 60 and up. For those under 60, the cost is $7.
If you want to eat at the center, you will need to call before 8 a.m. the morning you plan to eat. You will leave a message as to how many meals you want that day. The number is 620-437-2696.
The meals are ready at 11:45 a.m. and are prepared off-site after changes were made by the new agency in charge of Friendship Meals.
If you’ve ever thought about getting together with friends to eat meals at the Senior Center, the time is now. They will save you a seat at their table.
