When it comes to voting I must admit I don’t have much experience. Growing up I was told my vote doesn’t matter. Elections were just popularity contests and whoever could throw enough money behind their campaign typically wins.
However, Thomas Jefferson said “We do not have a government by the majority. We have a government by the majority who participate. Well, I never participated. I regret that now. I didn’t pay attention. I lost my health insurance. Now, I vote.
Roosevelt said, “Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore education”. Unfortunately it is very hard in todays world to know the truth. To know who is telling the truth.
My vote is my voice. It matters all our voices matter. Just think if every one who felt their vote didn’t matter, actually got out and voted. Imagine what a difference it could make. In the words of Lincoln “Elections belong to the people. It’s our decision. If we decide to turn our backs on the fire. Then we will have to just sit on our blisters.” Your vote is your voice I wish I had used mine sooner.
