Halloween is this Saturday and the weatherman, Sunday night, predicted rain for some in the area. Let’s hope it holds off until after midnight. The last time Halloween fell on a Saturday was in 2020 and the next time won’t be until 2037. Do you reminisce about Halloween as a kid? I’ve heard many stories through the years about what different people did on this night of trick-or-treating.

What is the number one candy sold this time of year in Kansas?

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to the family and friends of Mike Reid. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

Trunk or Treat is this Saturday night on Main Street from 6-8 p.m. hosted by the Toronto Booster Club with prizes, chili dogs and hot chocolate, followed by Outdoor Movie Night hosted by the Toronto Library with popcorn and hot chocolate. The movie will be the 1995 version of “Casper.”

Coyville is having a community based collective of sellers, artisans, collectors, and crafters Nov. 6-7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Answer: Candy corn! Kansas has been crowned the nation’s top candy corn-loving state, according to new data from Brach’s, reinforcing what regional sales and past analyses have long suggested: Midwesterners really do embrace the tri-colored fall classic.

Kansas has the most candy corn purchases per 1,000 households. I like candy corn, mix it with some peanuts. The caramel flavored candy corn is even better.

Some people don’t like the trunk-or-treat aspect of Halloween and prefer to have the ghosts, ghouls, goblins, witches and other costume clad kids to come to their house. I used to be that way, but it is fun sitting on Main Street with others, decorated trunks, adults in costume and then seeing all the kids in their costumes. It’s all over with in a matter of minutes, but it’s fun while it lasts. Whether you trunk-ortreat or have candy at your house, don’t discourage teenagers who are tricko r-treating. Let them be young, it’s all good, clean fun. It’s better to give a teenager some candy than to have your yard “tricked” because you denied them a little bit of candy.

Don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour Saturday night as Daylight Saving Time comes to an end Saturday night at 2 a.m.

Quote: “I expect to pass through life but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.” - William Penn
