At Monday night’s regularly scheduled Madison City Council meeting (Oct. 19) the following were present: Mayor Paul Dean, Council members Daryl May, Tony Fankhauser, Kyle Engle and Terri King as well as City Clerk Alice Grimm and Deputy Clerk Amie May.
After approving the agenda, the last meeting minutes, and accounts payable, the council discussed a few ongoing violations and their statuses.
The council also had received long-awaited financial information; however, it was in a format that was different and hard for them to follow so have asked the accounting firm to convert the information in a format similar to what Mike Bartlow had been doing. Deputy Clerk A. May asked for clarification on how to handle water payments not paid in full monthly. She indicated that there are numerous people who are making payments on their water bills but never getting them paid in full and inquired about how to handle late payments and/or shutoffs for those customers.
After discussion about not letting the unpaid balances continue to carry over, D. May made a motion to have all water bills paid current by the end of the year or they will be disconnected. Fankhauser seconded and was approved unanimously. Fankhauser then gave various updates on projects such as pool repairs, sewer line inspections, culvert repairs and more.
D. May moved to go into executive session for five minutes for employee performance.
The motion passed with a second by Fankhauser and approved by all. No decisions were made, but Dean did commend City Clerk Grimm on the completion of her Master Municipal Court course which is the highest certificate for a city clerk. The council appreciated her hard work and plan to compensate her for the accomplishment at an upcoming meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
