- submitted by Robin Himes, museum director The month of September was a busy time for the Greenwood County Museum. During the Oct. 6 meeting of the board, it was reported that during Homecoming Weekend, Sept. 26, 20 people had visited the museum and Claycomb School. Also, on Sept. 30, 126 students from grades 3rd – 6th of Marshall Elementary school attended to hear a presentation by Gibb Rhodes about rural schools in Greenwood County. They also saw video of the moving of Claycomb school to the museum site and toured the restored school building. High School students also were a part of the museum’s September activities as 6 students helped with storage and displays during Eureka’s student service day. The Museum also welcomed 29 Sunflower Summer visitors to the museum.
Those present for the monthly meeting were Mike Pitko, president, Rise Russin, Dana Mills, Rhodes, Dusty Booth, Taylor Hunt, Greg Rawlings, John Mills, Stan Skaer, Jan Stephens and museum director Robin Himes.
Future activities at the Museum include open displays of the museum and Claycomb School on Cattlemen’s Day, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., and a special 5th Monday program on Norwegian heritage by Kent Olson on Nov. 30.
The board reminds people that the museum is open each week day, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., or by appointment on Saturday, and the Claycomb school can be viewed by checking with a staff member. More information can be found at gwhistory.com
