The Tornado football team was first to score last Friday, Oct. 16 against Uniontown, as Eureka’s Cruz Escareno connected with fellow senior Christian Andrews on an opening touchdown pass to put the Tornadoes on the board.
The Eagles answered quickly and claimed a 6-8 lead over the Tornadoes.
Eureka trailed 6-21 at halftime, but came back with fight in the second half to close the deficit.
“I am both proud of how the team responded to a 21-6 halftime deficit but frustrated we continue to not play a fourth-quarter game,” stated head coach Jonah McKee.
“Andrews’s first play for a touchdown and Mason Hughes’s pick six were huge plays along with Kotah Davis’s touchdown catch to bring it into a one score game,” he continued.
Andrews had over 100 all purpose yards.
With 3:18 left on the clock, Eureka was looking for another opportunity to make things interesting. Unfortunately, an interception gave Uniontown the ball at the Eureka 41-yard line.
The Tornadoes lost their final game at home, 20-28.
Eureka will travel to Pittsburg this Thursday, Oct. 22, to take on St. Mary’s Colgan for week eight.
“Colgan is a well coached tough football team. We need to play with confidence and urgency for the entire game. We need to finish the season strong to have a building block for next year,” stated McKee.
The game is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
