The West Elk Patriot football team was first to score last Friday, Oct. 9 but West Elk was unable to keep the momentum going against the Wildcats of Yates Center.
“Yates Center was able to do whatever they wanted on both sides of the ball,” stated head coach Ian Denton. “I was disappointed in our physical and mental efforts on Friday night. We did not play well at all,” he continued.
West Elk scored on a 32-yard pass from Jaxson Bogdahn to Gage Cook. The two-point conversion attempt failed and the Patriots held a brief 6-0 lead.
The Wildcats scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and continued to dominate in the second adding an additional 30 points before halftime. The game was called at half with West Elk falling, 6-60.
The Patriots are currently 1-5.
West Elk travels to South Sumner this Friday, Oct. 16 to face the Outlaws who have a 5-1 record.
“South Sumner will be a tremendous challenge for us,” stated Coach Denton. “They are an experienced, well-coached team. Our focus this week will be to defend their trap run game. We need to get stops and/ or force some turnovers. Offensively, we will need to run the ball to have any success. We will continue to work on our deficiencies.”
