Two Eureka photographers are seeing their work reach a wider audience, with photographs recently featured in Kansas! Magazine and COWGIRL Magazine.

Taylor Hunt’s photograph captures a summer sunset at the historic Birkett Bridge over the west branch of Fall River, west of Eureka. Built in 1909, the bridge is located on 200th Road, just west of the Norwegian Church.

The photograph was taken a couple of years ago using an Autel EVO Lite+ drone. Hunt was riding an electric bike west along 200th Road when he noticed the sun was getting close to setting.

He decided to hurry to the bridge, launch the drone and search for the right angle. The result became one of his favorite photographs to date.

A snap-on graduated neutral density filter helped create the soft glow in the sky, adding to the atmosphere of the sunset.

The photograph was recently featured in Kansas! Magazine.

Hunt also shared “This bridge may not be around much longer as the county has decided it needs replaced. There’s been some discussion from the land owners on both sides of the bridge about donating their land for a new bridge to be built next to the existing bridge. Ultimately, it’s up to the engineers to decide where the new bridge should go but I hope it lives to see another century!”

Rayna (Brandt) Lehmann, with Rlyn Photography, captured a quick shot that tells a different story.

Through what Lehmann calls The Cowgirl Story Project, she shares the stories of women from Kansas and beyond through photography and video.

One of those women is Arlee Schauf, a fifth-generation cowgirl from Oklahoma who has made her mark as a breakaway roper.

The photograph began as a spontaneous idea. Lehmann asked Schauf to throw her rope into the air so it would appear as though she were roping the moon.

“The more I look at the photo, the more I start to see it’s not just a ‘super cool photo,’ but it tells a story about reaching beyond what you think your ability is and achieving a dream some think is unimaginable,” stated Lehmann.

The photo was recently featured by COWGIRL Magazine.
